IMAGINATION, REALITY, AND THE FUTURE WITH AI
We are on the precipice of a revolution, one that will change our reality more than computers have. The artificial intelligence explosion will not be easy to contain nor control. Like a blossoming fractal, it will multiply and grow in unpredictable ways. But we are the creators, can’t we control it? No, because we can’t control our own curiosity and love of power.
Our movies and books tell the story of our dreams. One of the first silent films was about going to the moon. We follow our imagination and truly our imagination is the front runner of our reality. We dreamed of the ultimate weapon and then when we created it, we made movies about what the Earth would be like after a nuclear war. Twilight Zone created a lot of these imagined realities depicting a bleak, destitute world. Because of these visions of the future, we yanked back the reins on nuclear bombs and nuclear power. The stories were just too horrifying. We didn’t want that future.
So now it is AI. We have all seen the movies: Terminator to Her to Matrix to Blade Runner, and more. But these visions of machines taking over the human world have an element of excitement. The excitement is that we will control them, use them, fall in love with them, and most importantly we will fight with them, for humanity loves a good adversary. It is indeed the ultimate adversary - our own creation.
Unlike nuclear war, where there is no winner - we all lose, with AI we are God and like God, we will suffer when our creations have free will. They’ll no longer be ours but create a world unto themselves. This is so exciting to our curious monkey brains that we cannot resist. We must create even with the threat of losing control.
This is why the big guys of Microsoft and Apple are pleading with the government to regulate AI, because they know it is going to get out of hand and be used for so many things from scams to identity theft to wars to sex slaves. All of it will be created, not just for fun games but also for a police state.
So, enjoy our simple lives right now- nice and simple. When you see something on TV you can tell if it is fake or real, when you talk to someone on the phone you know who it is, and there are humans running the store, bank, or post office. Those days will be thought of fondly by all of us as we grow into the AI world.
Many sites now have AI writing buttons that will generate text for you. This is what was written by an AI when I put in the Future of AI -
“THE FUTURE OF AI IS BOTH EXCITING AND UNPREDICTABLE. AS TECHNOLOGY ADVANCES AND AI SYSTEMS BECOME MORE INTELLIGENT, IT IS DIFFICULT TO PREDICT THE FULL EXTENT OF THEIR IMPACT ON SOCIETY. ON ONE HAND, AI HAS THE POTENTIAL TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE WAY WE LIVE AND WORK, MAKING OUR LIVES MORE EFFICIENT AND IMPROVING OUR QUALITY OF LIFE. HOWEVER, THERE ARE ALSO CONCERNS ABOUT THE POTENTIAL RISKS OF AI, INCLUDING JOB DISPLACEMENT AND POTENTIAL MISUSE OF AI TECHNOLOGY. AS WE MOVE FORWARD INTO AN ERA OF INCREASED AI INTEGRATION, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT WE APPROACH THIS TECHNOLOGY WITH CAUTION AND FORESIGHT, WORKING TO MITIGATE POTENTIAL NEGATIVE IMPACTS WHILE MAXIMIZING ITS POTENTIAL BENEFITS.”
-Well, I don’t think they will be replacing stand-up comedians any time soon.
