Hippy in the Woods

A River in Africa

Well we got Voldemortrump out of the white house. Well, almost out. Sort of out. Like, I think he will leave. Right? We are teetering on the brink of a new enlivened democracy by mail-in ballots or a complete disregard for democracy and let’s just have a dictator. A million people are all for a despot. That is what Voldemortrump represents. What is up with these people who support him even if it means disregarding the electoral process? How can they support what he is doing and cheer him on as he acts above all law and order? This is the question all of us liberals are asking ourselves.

There is a common thread behind the red consciousness, and that is denial. They are really good at it. They have been practicing a bunch- like global warming is fake science, the news is fake news, but the bible is real truth. They are joyfully awaiting an Armageddon that they are subconsciously making happen. It is a common enough occurrence to react with denial when things are overwhelming, and there are a lot of huge issues we are facing as a world. Denial should be factored in as a logical response. What the heck are we going to do about exploding world population, peek oil, plastic pollution, rising oceans, and what else… oh yeah, extinction.

This can drive all of us to shove our heads in the sand.

And don’t think the liberals aren’t. We just do it in a much cooler fashion. We focus on hip issues that are easier to deal with as a way of feeling proactive but not really dealing with the big issues. Like, we are so open minded, let’s push to have cross-gendered people be able to use whatever bathroom they like. Wow, now we have really made some progress – or have we? Maybe the deeper question is if anyone should be using tiled bathrooms where we pee a pint of urine into 3 gallons of fresh water, wipe ourselves with a wad of bleached tree fibers, and then flush it into the rivers. These are tougher questions and ones that almost everyone but the most radical are thinking about.

No one wants to abandon comforts, all the wonderful comforts we have created. And the plastic band aid that we cover our eyes with is the idea that science will fix it all.

Oh, you mean the science that created all these problems in the first place is the same science that is going to fix it all. I know - let’s release a plastic-eating bacterium into the oceans. That will make it all better. See science will fix it all. Oh sh*t! The bacteria are now out of control and eating the insides of all the marine life. – That is the science fix for you. It always leads to larger problems because science is not wholistic. It thinks in small bits of problems and does not look at overall health and wellbeing as a factor.

So, you really can’t blame the Voldemortrump followers. They just want everything to go back to the good ol’ days where there were good paying factory jobs, wholesome all white churches, and white supremacy lets them be at the top. They want Christ to come down and just get rid of all these multi-racial-pagan-queer-hippies so the world can just be their private strip mall.

And we can’t blame the city dwelling Democrats either. They just want stability and to stop this crazy political ride. Just a nice, stable, sane, political guy that will just run the country so we can get back to our lives shopping at our cool second-hand boutiques and eating croissants with our lattes. As soon as we get a vaccine are we going to run out and get it, and then fly to France for a croissant, have a party with lots of Trader Joes plastic wrapped goodies, or drive to LA to visit our Trump loving relatives? Think hard, because the scales are tipping over. Uhm, maybe we are still the problem - our heads are way up our lattes.

Enter stage left the woke radical. What can we do to really make a change? What are we doing right now, in this lock down, that is more environmental? There is not much time left for denial foolery, (although there is time for hippie foolery as long as it is compostable.) We look good in our tie-dye, organic, hemp shirts as we get closer to the land and see where we can help the Earth be a beautiful place.
