Hippy in the Woods

Hippy Time

You have heard of the saying “time is relative”.  It refers to the theory of relativity that states time changes in relation to gravity and speed. People don’t realize that this is not just a theory it is an actual feeling of time.

Speed is affecting human society. In our cars we go about 40-60 mph, but we feel like we are sitting still. This is the paradox of our society- a faster society with a lot of waiting. A jux of position from a walking society with a lot of movement.

One of the things to strive for in hippiness is to down shift from the crazy high speed. Smoke a joint. Look at the birds. Enjoy your ice cream. Play a guitar. Talk about crazy shit. Doesn’t mean you don’t sometimes have to hustle. We have to make some money. But time is money and money is time. It’s a conscious rebellion to want time.

You can see it in people’s eyes the craze and haste in their souls. It is hard to let go of operational habits. We get use to speed. It takes months if not years to retrain how we function. To be a hippie in the woods, it is a shift of pace and perspective more than the tie dye and marijuana.

What is real. That is the question. Nature is quiet and still. Most speedy people view nature as nice wall paper. But within the slow-moving life of nature, is our salvation, our sanity, and our humanity.
